February, March Update ..

April 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I can’t even remember when I last posted here. It seems as if my multitasking skills have eluded me.

I’ve been settling into the Business English Language Trainer role pretty well. I like it a lot. It’s challenging in the aspect of being able to answer questions about grammar, word usage, culture as well as preparing stimulating lessons that offer challenge at a specific English level and also making it fun.

I receive my first pay check for the month of Feb. It was 627 euro. It certainly wasn’t what I was use to making when I was a nurse but I could not complain. Just being able to know I had some money in the bank to perhaps buy tampons was peace of mind enough.

I have been carefully budgeting it. Because my work is freelance, the hours are not set and therefor neither is my pay check amount. For the month of March, I will barely make 400 euro, thanks to the Easter Holiday.

I don’t know how I’ll be able to save enough for the things I need but I am just hoping that I get more hours of teaching while at the same time, the Empowered by English program I want to set up here, will hopefully start up soon.

The weather has been good. I cannot complain at all. I’ve managed to fend off the cold (which really was mild compared to what friends and family were getting in Toronto) with my sweater coat layered on top of a sweater dress, black cotton long sleeve shirt and sort black cotton bolero. *sigh*

I have been wearing this outfit everyday. Once, at one of my classes, the students had noticed me wearing the same outfit and had commented, “Is that the Kern uniform?”

I simply smiled and replied, “No, it’s the ‘waiting for your first paycheck attire.”

Spring is here .. but we did have a week of cold winter interjected in.

When I bike to work, into downtown and through the tree lined back way streets I feel happy. I feel happy that I have made it this far. I am happy that I am able to work here in Frankfurt, make it through the adjustment stage – which I am still going through, only  not as bad as before.

I miss Houston. I miss my family, my friends, the food, my Picasso, my books,  my things, my clothes, my piano – basically, I miss my life back in Houston.

However, I made the choice to come here and I am determined to work it out. I am determined to create a life for me here in Europe – every bit as beautiful as the one I just left.

Tech Savvy Tech Sexy

November 19, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I have finally figured out a way to combine all my passions into one (as if I could).

I decided a few days ago to create a site called Tech Savvy Tech Sexy. My good friend and Second Life brother, Ben Vanguard of www.slmen.com inspired me in such a way that I can now progress the way I need to with the various other projects – one thing at a time.

Tech SavvyTech Sexy is a fashion accessory site for all things gadget and techie in Second Life and in Real Life. What this means is, Ysabel Isabella, my SL avatar will be featuring ‘neat’ gadgets that she has found in SL as accessories to a ‘digital femme lifestyle’.

As I am not too into fashion but would rather prefer a Mac as opposed to Manolo Blahniks I figure, what best to make use of what I love both inworld and in Real Life by writing about and perhaps someday, making money with it.

We’ll see how it goes, but the exciting thing is, I actually can see this growing into something bigger than what I started with. That is the goal anyway.

Wish me luck.

My Flock Wish List

November 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Flock – a digital femme’s (that’s me) new best friend!

I coined the phrase, “Flock is to Online Social Networking what Purses are to Women. Just open it up and you’ll be able to find everything right at your fingertips!”or to ad a slight twist, “Flock is to Online Social Networking what Purses are to Women. Just open it up and you have everything but the kitchen sink!”

Now, for a digital femme like me, Flock meets all my online needs (at least my needs are being met in some way!) and of course my mind never really stays put so I was off thinking about everything that Flock could be.

I asked the amazing Flock people if they were planning to integrate the Plazes platform with Flock.  I received a reply right away asking me to stay why Plazes should be integrated and what its’ functionality would be – so I did.

I then got to thinking some more and thought how amazing it would be if a Second Life portal could be accessed through Flock. We could include a list of our SL friends that were online OR, now this would totally be amazing – be able to launch the SL client right from Flock and have a small window open up somewhere … so you could see what was going on in SL without stopping your social networking or multi browsing. If there was something really interesting going on in SL you could maximize the window and minimize it again.

Well, that would be my wish list .. and since Christmas is just around the corner .. hmmmmm. Of course I am asking for a lot – but I hear that plans for their 2008 roadmap are of course underway and I just want these two clients to be in the 2008 list!

Flock 1.0.1 Release Notes

November 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

So, this time I only had 5 windows open in Flock with one viewing a video broadcast that I had just uploaded onto a site while broadcasting another vid live onto another. I was wondering why, right in the middle of my online event – the browser stopped responding – again.

I then get a message after the “send report” “don’t send” that Flock was updating.

Updating …. cool.

Flock 1.0.1 has just been released minutes prior to me posting this. You can read the Release Notes here.

I am still lovin’ my Flock Browser.

I have coined the phrase, “Flock is to the online social networker what purses are to women” or “Flock is the blackberry of the online social networker what purses are to women” or “Flock is the essential accessory of the online social networker what purses are to women” or “Flock is a must-have to the online social  networker, what lipstick is to women” or .. well you get my drift.
