Foreigner’s Office Update

I received a letter from the Foreigner’s Office last week. They want to see me on October 15 at 9:30am. I need to bring my passport *again* and proof of Health Insurance! Yikes!

I contacted the Insurance guy from Spectrum Health, that I had been in touch with before and sent him am email saying that I would NOW be needing Health Insurance. I was going to send him the application and from their he would give me an exact initial fee quote. Well, as usual, I got lazy on it and instead M took it upon himself to call around and compare insurance rates. I was still asleep one morning when I heard him on the phone calling people. I figured he was calling about health insurance info because well … I think I am starting to understand a little bit more of the German Langueage .. YAY!

I was surprised that he went and did that. Call around for me. It turned out that he got a good quote from his contact at his bank who also does insurance and so we will be meeting the guy tomorr ow Tuesday, October 9 at 9:30 am to arrange for it – that and to also get me a BANK ACCOUNT! YAY! M asked the guy if it would be possible for me to get a bank account. Apparently, the guy said “yes..” so we will have to see.

We don’t have money for the Health Insurance or the first payments anyway so I had to swallow my pride and contact Dina for money. She has sent me an email a few months ago saying that she would send me some money .. just to get me started. I was so happy, surprised and also shy about it. When we would meet online she would remind me of the money she wanted to send to me but I would always try to change the subject or evade the topic altogether. Well, a few days ago, I decided to send her an email telling her of me situation and asking her if she could send some money “of course I would pay her back” (who knows when .. that is another story ..  just like the other list of people I need to pay back for their generosity with me – like Cesar, My Aunt Annie, My sister, My Eddie, Freya & James, Dina, “M”, his kind family ..) *Sigh*.

So .. I will see what will happen tomorrow – I hope the health insurance gets set up as well as the bank account so that I ca give Dina the details so she could transfer the money directly from her bank.

Obtaining Health Insurance and a bank account is crucial in the stages of trying to  get accepted for a WORK Permit. And obtaining a work permit would solve so much issues. If only I can be legal to work here – then I can look up any decent job and earn money. I need to become independent ASAP. This is NOT healthy for my state of mind to be dependent on people .. I hate it .. and yet I of course I so grateful. I know that I am so lucky too have been able to do what I did – leave a life in Houston and just pack up and move here …

For whatever the reason .. I am here now and I MUST make the best of things! I will update you all on the Health Insurance and Bank account think after tomorrow.
