It’s Friday and we did what the C0ol guy told us to do. We went to the Foreigner’s Office with a letter from Marcus stating his intention of hiring me and a copy of my CV. We got there at 9 am and it was great because there was no line at all! We were sent to the front line counter and showed the lady the name of the one we were supposed to see.

We proceeded to the 3rd floor (at this point, I am very familiar with this 3rd floor) and in less than a minute we walked into an office. The lady that we were supposed to see was not there but … we were taken care of by someone who obviously worked in the department.

Marcus noticed that there were a lot of plants in the office and he made a kind comment regarding the plants and how it created a nice energy in the space. The lady smiled. “Good one!” I thought, “… let’s butter up the lady so that she would be in a good mood and grant me the necessary papers.”

It turned out that we didn’t need to butter her up. She was really nice and understanding and well .. simply doing her job. She took out my file from the back room (Wow! I had a file!) and she proceeded to input things in the computer. She then made out a form and asked Marcus to take the form downstairs to a cashier, I guess and pay for the Permit.

When Marcus came back, he handed her the receipt and she then printed out a really pretty looking Permit that she told us, needed to be with my passport ALL THE TIME.

She handed me the Permit and I stared at it. It had my full name spelt correctly and the date of the expiry – Nov. 2 2007. My mom’s birthday and Marcus’ Mom’s birthday!

The lady told us that she would forward the application to the Government Job Agency and they would look it over and that it was up to them to decide if I would be allowed to work as a Freelancer in Germany. She said that the Job Agency would get in touch with the Foreigner’s Office in about 8 weeks *sigh* – and in turn, they would contact us.

The 3 month Conditional Residence Permit allows for the waiting time to see if the necessary documentations were accepted. In the meantime, I will continue to work with out 1st TOUCH Magazine, Second Life, the Digital Concierge Project and the df mag.
